castle!
Symbol Tattoos

Galleries: Edinburgh

I do not generally go inside areas like this, but Edinburgh Castle is a fine location to take photographs of and from, with its views over the city from the rock. I’ve previously posted about it on the proper blog. This one is from a sunny winter day in 2008.

Wikipedia says: Edinburgh Castle is a fortress which dominates the skyline of the city of Edinburgh, Scotland, from its position atop the volcanic Castle Rock. Human habitation of the site is dated back as far as the 9th century BC. There has been a royal castle right here because at least the reign of David I in the 12th century, and the web site continued to be a royal residence until the Union of the Crowns in 1603. From the 15th century the castle’s residential role declined, and by the 17th century its principal role was as a military base with a huge garrison. As one of the most important fortresses in the Kingdom of Scotland, Edinburgh Castle was involved in many historical conflicts, from the Wars of Scottish Independence in the 14th century, up to the Jacobite Rising of 1745, and has been besieged, both effectively and unsuccessfully, on several occasions. Despite the fact that formally owned by the Ministry of Defence, most of the castle is now in the care of Historic Scotland, and it is Scotland’s most-visited paid tourist attraction. The garrison left in the 1920s, but there is nevertheless a military presence at the castle, largely ceremonial and administrative, and including a quantity of regimental museums. As the backdrop to the annual Edinburgh Military Tattoo it has turn into a recognisable symbol of Edinburgh and of Scotland.

Petroglyph

For guys and ladies, this is an avatar inspired by Native American petroglyphs. There are three skins, ranging from a quite abstract and geometric one to 1 where the tattoos are in truth Native American symbols. Outdoors of the 3 skins there is a bodysuit for ladies and one particular for the gents, a extremely elaborate torso attachment created out of thin loops to which I have attached rocks, two far more for the upper legs, a rotating &quotrock&quot headdress and some rather silly &quotrock&quot slippers.

Sexy Ewok
Symbol Tattoos

This young lady accomplished something I believed was not possible… I never completely hate the Ewoks now. In truth, I was sorely tempted to attempt and take her house with me. Damn her bodyguards!!! :-)

No, she’s not that short, it’s just the angle I took her photo that made her look tinier than she really was.

Quick D*C story: The tiny Ewok girl had a truly exciting &quottramp stamp&quot tattoo and I was trying to figure out where I knew the image from. My buddy, Lamia, caught me staring at the Ewok girl’s backside – but NOT for lecherous motives (this time!) as I have a thing for symbols, runes, &amp glyphs (check out my original artwork) – as it piqued my interest and she chastised me for leering. Oops &amp mea culpa.

Ultimately figured out what the tattoo was – it looked like the Glaive from &quotKrull.&quot Ewok girl verified it wasn’t the Glaive but stated that it looked like the weapon to her as nicely.

As I pointed out the other day I am considering about visual modifications for my bike. The issue is that I really truly like it matte black – you know, how it is proper now – and so I am fighting my adore for it as it stands versus what I consider I could do with it.

A single factor I’ve wanted for it is a fleur-de-lis sticker, and the other day I happened upon a couple of of Dirty Coast‘s X Marks the Nola stickers. I snipped one particular proper up and now proudly display it below my Raleigh head tube badge.

You know, I got my most current tattoo just before I moved back down here. I wanted a fleur-de-lis since to me it was the most obvious symbol of New Orleans. Properly, hah, for positive – upon coming back I found that every individual, location, and point now has a fleur-de-lis on it. Moreso than ahead of, I imply. Far from obtaining that &quotoh man I believed I was unique&quot moment I’m really pleased. It is a sign of how significantly we all really like this messed-up location.

NYC – Brooklyn – Prospect Park Zoo: Animals in Our Lives – Koi

koiKoi (鯉), or far more particularly nishikigoi (錦鯉), are ornamental domesticated varieties of the common carp Cyprinus carpio. They are believed to have originated from Eastern Asia, Aral, Black and Caspian Seas. Earliest records of Koi have been found in China and have been broadly spread in Japan. The ornamental cultivation of carp flourished beneath the Chinese Qing Dynasty and Japanese Yayoi Period. They are very closely connected to goldfish and, in reality, the style of breeding and ornamentation has turn into extremely equivalent, probably via the efforts of Japanese breeders to emulate goldfish. Koi and tattoos of koi are traditionally considered lucky.

The word &quotkoi&quot comes from Japanese. The original Japanese word koi simply means &quotcarp,&quot like both the dull grey fish and the brightly colored varieties. A homonym of koi signifies ‘love, affection’ and koi are for that reason symbols of really like and friendship in Japan.

The Prospect Park Zoo, Brooklyn’s only Zoo, is home to nearly 400 animals of more than 80 species. First established as a modest menagerie in Prospect Park in the late 1800’s, this collection of animals became the much more formal Prospect Park Zoo on Flatbush Avenue that opened to the public on July three, 1935. A Functions Progress Administration (WPA) project, the Zoo was component of a huge city-wide park improvement plan initiated and executed by former Parks Commissioner Robert Moses. Closed in 1988 for a five year, million dollar renovation plan, the zoo was totally replaced save for the exteriors of the 1930’s-era buildings. Rededicated on October five, 1993, it joined Wildlife Conservation Society’s (WCS) planet-renowned network of wildlife parks in New York City.

The vertical white signboard says ‘Tattoo Preservation Society.’ It offers us very coercive impression since the standard Japanese tatoo is like a symbol of Yakuza – gangster.
