An abandoned developing with faded letters — all that remains of this old head shop originially named &quotDefinitely Distinct&quot. They sold all kinds of pseudo-legal and strange items, from dildos to &quotbelt buckles&quot (they had been really brass knuckles) to &quotwater pipes&quot to surrealist art and blacklight posters. They also had dishes and china and some uninteresting stuff that was inexplicably present as well. I purchased brass knuckles here just before, and thankfully never ever had to use them. I lost them in the snow even though sledding drunk in our apartment’s backyard with Carolyn.

The store eventually got in difficulty with the Christiansburg authoirties, and was shut down. But that did not quit their persistance. They opened a new store, known as Billy Bob’s Tobacco &amp Much more, on the left side of the exact same constructing. Absolutely Distinct still operated as a shell of its former self, and something they got in difficulty for they merely moved to the other side of the developing.

This worked surprisingly long. They had been nonetheless operating when Carolyn &amp I went to Virginia Tech. The really last time I left town, ever, I stopped by to pick up a couple posters for souveniers, and they have been closed. But the lady recognized me and let me go in and make a buy anyway. Very good ol’ country service.

So coming back to Virginia Tech / Blacksburg / Christiansburg for the very first time considering that Carolyn’s graduation (1998), it had been at least six years because I’d been right here. It is only a ten-15 minute detour (bothways) out of the way. I recognized the houses, the the Truly Huge sattelite dish, the weird thing that gets my interest everytime I go right here but I can never bear in mind what it is except when I’m there, the stupid dog statues.

Not much had changed.

The store was nonetheless right here, a shell of its former self. The letters had been gone, and all that remained were faded letters in the paint, where the actual letters had previously existed. There was no sign of any life whatsoever except a tattoo parlor sign that was barely visible. Almost everything was the same as it had often been, however appropriate here it was fully various.

I had to get out of the automobile and stand in the parking lot to genuinely take it in. It was so strange that such a spot of wonder no longer existed.

Absolutely Different, Christiansburg.
